What Is PRINCE2 Foundation And How Do I Pass My Exam?


PRINCE2 Foundation is a structured method for managing complex organizational change. PRINCE2 certification is widely used in project management and education because it simplifies the difficult process of organizing and delivering projects, programming, and changes to meet desired outcomes while bringing order to conflicting interests.

The following blogs were written to teach basic PRINCE2 concepts, as part of an ITIL foundation course we developed for The Open Group.

PRINCE2 Course is the British standard for project management which is based on "the triple constraints" of people, time and cost, rather than some of the other environmental constraints such as quality and risk. PRINCE2 emphasizes business awareness, forward-looking plans and disciplined management in everything you do. It was developed by The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) in order to meet the growing complexity encountered in conducting business.

What is the PRINCE2 Foundation?

The PRINCE2 Foundation is a certification that demonstrates your understanding of the PRINCE2 project management methodology. To obtain your PRINCE2 Foundation certification, you will need to pass an exam.

The PRINCE2 Foundation exam is comprised of multiple-choice questions. You will have 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete the exam, and you will need to achieve a passing score of 55% to receive your certification.

To prepare for the PRINCE2 Foundation training it is recommended that you take a training course or read a study guide. There are many different resources available to help you prepare for the exam.

When you are ready to take the exam, you can register for an online proctored exam or an in-person exam. The in-person exams are offered at testing centers around the world.

PRINCE2 Foundation certification is valid for 3 years. After 3 years, you will need to retake the exam in order to maintain your certification.

Exam structure and questions of PRINCE2 Foundation

The PRINCE Foundation certification exam is made up of multiple choice and essay questions. The multiple choice questions test your knowledge of the PRINCE2 project management methodology, while the essay questions assess your ability to apply the methodology to a project scenario.

There are two parts to the exam, the Foundation level and the PRINCE2 Practitioner level. The Foundation level is made up of 50 multiple choice questions, which must be completed in 1 hour. The Practitioner level is made up of 8 essay questions, which must be completed in 3 hours.

In order to pass the PRINCE2 Foundation or Practitioner level, candidates must get at least 40 out of 50 on the multiple choice questions or 6 out of the 8 right on the essay questions, respectively.

Applicants who do not have project management experience can take short online training courses to prepare for certification testing. Candidates can also earn an alternative qualification called PRINCE2 Practitioner, which will prepare them to pass the Foundation exam. The PRINCE2 examination is one hour long and comprises 70 questions that deal with tactical aspects of projects. There are 107 pages of the official wording in English.
